In honor of Treat Yo’Self Tuesday (something I just made up), I thought I would share how I define luxury. Because I work so hard, I am trying to make my environments calmer and more relaxed, especially if I can do so on a budget.
Here are a few things that are inexpensive but also make me deliriously happy.
Fancy Cleaning Products
I recently got a free VIP membership to Grove and received a number of free organic cleaning products with my first order. For those who don’t know, I love cleaning and organic products (such as Grove and Meyers) have upped my game. There is something about catching a whiff of real lavender or rosemary that fills me with joy and makes my house feel homier and tidier. While these products are a few dollars more expensive than other cleaning products–the cost is worth it to me to live chemical-free (and, as I mentioned, these things smell great).
While I enjoy my home yoga practice, taking a class at a studio is even better. I love sharing the energy of my fellow yogis and the way yoga studios are painted and decorated. Lots of calming blues and fun pillows. While classes can be pricey, you can often find new member monthly deals or Groupons.
I think I’ve been subconsciously redecorating my home to make it look more like a yoga studio. I’ve been able to do this with some paint and sewing new pillow cases with fabric I already had. You’d be surprised by how many cute decorative items they have at Dollar General and Big Lots as well.
I bought the flowers above for $2.49 as a Woohoo deal at Kroger. They are gorgeous, last forever and make me feel as if I’m living in a Park Avenue apartment with a Kennedy.
The final item on my list of luxuries can be pricey, but I am lucky in that I live near a wellness center where one-hour relaxation massages can be purchased for as little as $45. You can also look for Groupons.
I have chronic pain in my shoulders, upper back and hips (even with all the yoga), and the only thing that can help sometimes is a therapeutic massage. Because I leave pain-free, this is a worthwhile luxury for me.
Why is this important?
Defining luxury may seem like a frivolity, but I think it is important. Life is tough, and we should all treat ourselves well. Unfortunately, we do not all have a limitless pot of money. That’s why I think we should all take a few minutes to jot down small items that bring us joy. What are your luxuries?
